Discordia Designs was established in 1999 as an arm of
Discordia Productions. Discordia Designs is a bespoke theatre
and stage costumiers. It is owned and managed by Nick Cornwall.
It’s first brief was to design and produce the costumes
for Wizard School and the Staff of Power that was performed
at The Horse-Shoe Theatre, Blackpool in the summer seasons
of 2000 and 2001.
Nick began his career in theatre in 1984
as an ASM at the Central Pier Theatre in Blackpool.
He pursued a successful career in theatre eventually stage-managing
for Stage Works World Wide Productions, others credits
include Les
Miserables and numerous panto’s, summer seasons
and UK tours including The Rocky Horror
Show, Cabaret and
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. On graduating in Visual
Culture (BA Hons) from Salford University in 1996 he turned
his attention to set and costume design and in 1999 designed
the set for Cinderella at The King Georges Hall, Blackburn
for Stage Works World Wide Productions. After designing costumes
for Wizard School he has gone on to design for international
ice-skaters Fiona Zaldua and Dimitri Sukhanov.
In 2001 Nick was introduced to Janina Kay, a well known
and established costumier who has produced costumes and stage-wear
for Lily Savage, Funny Girls and numerous tours and production
shows.
The sewing career of Janina Kaye started in a clothing
factory almost 50 yrs ago. Though she never attended
college or university, her natural skills have been honed
by years of experience, from tailoring in UK to beading with
the indigenous people of South Africa. Her extraordinary
perfectionism in both her attention to design detail and
the workability of her costumes, bear testament to the fact
that her qualifications truly are in her fingers .
Together Nick and Nina are knowledgeable, enthusiastic
and passionate about their work and pride themselves on the
excellent service they provide.
